SPIRIT ITEMS AT EVENTS: A HELP GUIDE FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS, BOOSTERS & SPECTATORS

There can often times be confusion about what spectators can and cannot use in terms of spirit items during MHSAA Tournaments and regular season events. TC Central adheres to many MHSAA Tournament expectations with regard to noisemakers and spirit items for the sake of consistency throughout the entire season. See examples at this link:

FORMS

Student-athletes are strongly encouraged to ride to and from athletic events with their teammates & coaches. Situations occasionally arise where an alternative plan may need to occur. When a student-athlete rides to or from an away event (outside of Traverse City) with his/her parent or a parent of a teammate, a Transportation Variance Form (below) MUST be completed and submitted to the head coach prior to the event. Student-athletes are never permitted to drive to or from away events, or ride with anyone other than his/her parent or a parent.

Transportation Variance Form

The following are links to health-related forms. More information regarding each form, along with links to the form, can be found by navigating to “Training Room” and selecting “Physicals & Concussions.”

Concussion Form

Emergency Medical Form Athletics 2017-18

It is strongly recommended that students visit their primary care physician for a complete wellness exam, and have the physician complete the above MHSAA Physical Form at the time of that exam. It is also recommended that parents of upper elementary children plan to have their child’s exam conducted on or after April 15 each year. That way, moving forward those exam dates that are on or after April 15 each year ensure that the exam meets MHSAA requirement for the following school year.

MHSAA Concussion Insurance Information & Benefits Form

ACCIDENT INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR STUDENTS – 2017-2018
Insurance is available for families that will cover student injuries due to accidents (i.e. no coverage for illness, medical conditions and the like). Options available include 24-hour coverage or just school-time protection (both of which are offered with or without interscholastic sports coverage). In particular, parents/guardians of students participating in interscholastic athletics are encouraged to consider this affordable coverage for the added protection it offers (especially those who are uninsured or have high-deductible plans). Note that football is the one interscholastic sport that is only covered through the purchase of that specific option. Click here to access the information on the District website. Any questions should be directed to Michele Greenan, TCAPS Executive Assistant, at 231.933.1735 or greenanmi@tcaps.net.

SPORTSWARE INJURY TRACKING SOFTWARE (ENCOURAGED! – FREE for families – interactive health record between family and Athletic Trainer)

We have implemented SportsWare Injury Tracking Software for families. With SportsWare, families can choose enter health & injury information, and in turn, provide Athletic Trainer, Amy Ream, the ability to communicate more interactively between the Training Room and your son/daughter when monitoring their health. Families are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this free service by registering online. Directions can be found at this link: SportsWare Software Letter to Parents

MHSAA OFFICIALS RECRUITMENT

Respect & support for MHSAA Game Officials is needed now more than ever! Currently on an alarming multiple-year decline in registration, we need to retain the officials that we currently have, largely by showing our support for their willingness to do the job by respecting the calls that are made. In addition, we need to encourage friends and family members, especially youngsters, to give it a try. Without officials, there would be no games! Learn more here:
